Anja Whitemyer

Born and raised in Germany. Her mother worked in the Fashion industry and her father was an interior designer and painter. Anja Whitemyer got a scholarship at the Hochschule bildende Kuenste im Hamburg (HFBK Hamburg) = University of fine Arts in Hamburg. She worked as a documentary photographer for a lot of artists and galleries in Europe (freelance).

ART STYLE

Anja Whitemyer’s art style is very diverse. From pencil drawing to ink floral works to fine art oil paintings and digital artworks.

From 1986-2013 she focused on street photography and portrait photography.

2013 Anja changed her main focus to fine art. Abstract contemporary oil paintings and graphic works on canvas. Her distinctive style is “less is more“ and her love for “emptiness“ in her artworks giving the viewer room for his/her now interpretation of her works.

Always trying to create a story; imaginary or book-based; her images are to inspire the beholder to look closer was the inspiration of “The Other Nursery “ series.

Digital artworks that incorporates her fine art ink works, watercolor drawings, oil paintings, and photo collages that are childlike but fit into the adult world of livings rooms and office spaces as well.

ICONS

Her newest series are the photographic homages on iconic photographs. The mosaic collages\’ backgrounds are repeating small images of the portrait person or group that builds the main image. If you look closer into the mosaic you see more human images, the rockstar brushing his teeth (Elvis) the musician (naked playing guitar – Amy Winehouse) hugging the parents… with these not so well know glimpses of daily life scene, Anja Whitemyer tries to portrait the human being inside the Icon.
