Rocky Asbury

ATHLETE TURNED ARTIST

“In 2015 I hung up my cleats and put away my golf clubs only to pick up a paintbrush. I knew without any training the deck was stacked against me but I still felt the challenge and believed I could do it. Some would say being self-taught I would be at a disadvantage and that may be so, but I also feel as if I have an advantage because I follow no rules or instructions and everything is usually 100% spontaneous. I use everything from acrylics to oil sticks/paint and spray paint. I also use brushes, scrappers, and pallet knives.”

Rose Braun

ARTIST

“As far as meaning in my work, I like to keep things open-ended and ambiguous, and leave specific interpretations of the images to the individual viewer. I appreciate and have been inspired by artists who are able to convey intense emotion in their work, and also those who have made biting social commentary. Both Goya and the German Dada artists come to mind as examples. I continue to strive to keep my work feeling raw and uncontrived.”

Claire Conrad

MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE

“I have always had a great love and interest in color and design. I uncovered my artistic talent by assembling a collection of beautiful antique books many over 120 years old. I soon discovered that my collages unveiled a visual cacophony of color, texture, and pattern. They demonstrate just how beautiful books once were and how many books were works of art unto themselves. Each piece is carefully covered in multiple layers of resin creating a glassy-like finish.”

Emilie Fantuz

PALETTE KNIFE PAINTER

If some artists consider their work to be a mirror of society, the artwork of Emilie Fantuz can be considered a magnifying glass held against the world around her. Her work has evolved over time as her surroundings have, highlighting the beauty in everyday scenes like city streets and mountainsides, as well as her own emotional state, from the brightness of florals to the intensity of abstraction.

Mike Fantuz

CITYSCAPES IN OIL

Many artists speak of the accidental ways they found their path towards art — Mike Fantuz is not one of those artists. Born in Guelph, Ontario, the foundation of Mike’s artistic career began even before his birth, specifically in the 1940s. This was the decade Mike’s grandfather, Gastone Fantuz, immigrated from war-torn Italy to Canada and began his own artistic career.

Michael Hermesh

PAINTINGS and SCULPTURE

“My art is shaped by how I view the world. I do not believe that there is a state of grace in life. Life is life – it is dynamic, and it is always a struggle. Integrity, awareness, and dignity remain constants. These are elements in life that are unchanging and real that can be spent or thrown away. For me, this is the mystic and beauty of life and the underlying subject matter of all my work.”
